Watch for announcements regarding the August
2008 Workshop for New teachers
Project SEARCH is a water quality monitoring and aquatic studies program for high schools. It was designed to effect systemic change in the teaching of science and mathematics. From 1994 through 1999, the project was been funded by a $1.5 million teacher enhancement grant from the National Science Foundation, administered through the Science Center of Connecticut (SCC) and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CT DEP). The Science Center has recently changed its name to The Children's Museum of Connecticut.
Now Project SEARCH is running on primarily 319 Funding from the Department of Environmental Protection. This grant focuses on training existing and new teachers and maintaining the quality-control aspect of the program.
Through participation in Project SEARCH, students receive a high-quality, real-world application of science while generating useful information. Students utilize standard techniques to collect and interpret data from Connecticut rivers, streams and wetlands. Student data is submitted to CT DEP and municipal officials. At the same time, students learn important lessons in Environmental Science, Biology, Earth Studies, Chemistry, Geography and Mathematics.
Connecticut high school science teachers are invited to participate in Project SEARCH and help Connecticut students increase their levels of achievement in science, mathematics and technology. For more information, contact any staff member listed below or visit The Program page.
